Miraan Moon Sa

Now living in London, England, Miraan is available for consultation and commissioned pieces. Dynamic, balanced, interpretive, potent, choreography of ink and paper, gestural thought, immediate yet still, emotion set free, floating thoughts in suspended pigment have been words used to describe her work.

Miraan Moon Sa is a first generation Korean-American.  After her liberal arts degree, she landed briefly in Chicago for a human rights fellowship, after which she headed to Miami, Florida to work with Haitian refugees and continue graduate studies.  She then ended up in California, most recently Los Angeles and San Francisco.  Throughout her studies, involvement with human rights organizations, and her business consultancy, she worked on developing her artistic interests, eventually taking a more focused turn in her pursuit of art.  Her love of beauty and design has informed her artwork as well as her forays into oil painting, drawing, and architectural drafting.  For over fifteen years she has studied with Kazuaki Tanahashi who is a painter, calligrapher, Zen Buddhist Master, and peace and environmental activist.

Miraan has shown her work in San Francisco, and works on commissioned pieces and consults closely with clients for unique artwork. Her art often incorporates East Asian calligraphy, and large brushwork using media such as sumi ink, charcoal, acrylics in matte and high-gloss finishes with rice paper, cotton and linen canvases, and other papers. She is also pursuing various design ideas related to space, textiles and tactile creations, such as working with paper creating pop-up three-dimensional designs.
